Ok, this one requires some explanation. told me last week that Johnny Depp (who became really REALLY popular because of his portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean) was being interviewed on some Entertainment show, and they were asking him the general questions. When they got to “What do you like doing in your free time?” His response was:

“Oh, Nerdy things.. Reading. Writing. Watching Anime, no da!”

… OH. MY. GAWD!

No Da? That’s what Chichiri says! Chichiri is a mage, monk, and shapeshifter from Fushigi Yugi, my all time Favorite anime. In the English translation, his “No da,” which is a verbal exclamation point, is translated into a “Ya Know.” VERY ANNOYING. But, the No Da blends into the rest of the sentence, making it actually sound cool.

Anyway, I was chuckling at the fact that Johnny Depp likes the same show I do in the origonal Language (which likely means that, if enough people wondered what he was talking about, there may be more people to come out to love the show), and this popped up…

Looks like Chichiri needs to work on his costuming skills.. His mustache is a dry erase marker and his goatee is falling off…Plus, he needs to tuck his blue bangs in.

But the rest of the costume looks pretty good!

Funny, i was doing Jack sparrow for my drama homework and i love Fushigi yuugi, god even more information! which is werid because Chichiri is my one of my top Characters fav in anime No da!

wow...I think I just fell in love with Johnny Depp xD;; Chichiri is my fave anime character, period. And I :heart: most of JD's movies, so wooh00t :3

Either that or he knows the terminology from something else, but.... I can't think of another anime that uses "no da", except for Fushigi yuugi in the original language. Which, watching it in Japanese only ups the respect he gets for watching it even more, since its not anywhere near as good in the english, and yet a lot of people prefer watching it in English because "reading subtitles is difficult"

I like both versions equally (tho the manga itself is my fave...go figure xD) because as a child, reading subtitles was hard, yes, so English was my first and therefor what I was used to; but srsly, how can ya beat the original Japanese? :P lulz

Oh yeah, the Manga is awesome. They keep the little things that make it enjoyable and you can make up the voices. XD And I've been an odd child, and though I was introduced to the anime later on (I was just entering highschool), I had watched subtitled movies before then with no problem -- I've been reading since before preschool XD

Woo!! Johnny Depp watching Fushigi Yugi is just too funny... :XD: Maybe if he makes it 'cool' they'll show it here in America! :D

XD I'd kinda prefer it if they didnt: Have you SEEN the english dubbing? D8 *shudder* It would only work is if they redubbed it to actually FIT the characters and keep the No Da and such. XD

Well, some of the VA were ok though. I dunno, when I first saw it, all I had access to was the dub, so it'd be REALLY weird to hear new voices for them... though depending on the company they went with, it'd be ok! Especially if it's ADV, they tend to do pretty good stuff. :XD:
